Gibson House
“My dad was always clean and well cared for. He was offered food for as long as he was able to eat - and they got ice cream for him when he wanted it. Everyone was so kind and caring.”
– from a caregiver survey
Our inpatient facility opened in November of 2007 and in 2020 was dedicated as “Gibson House” to honor the memory of a co-worker. Gibson House offers five beds for inpatient care as well as three beds for residential care. The eight private rooms offer 24-hour nursing care, personal care services, and emotional and spiritual support. Our facility is a unique resource available in Rockingham County.
Patients admitted to our facility must have a life-limiting illness with a prognosis of two to four weeks (in the opinion of ANCORA’s medical providers), and whose main goal is comfort care, and not further aggressive treatment of their disease.
In general terms, inpatient beds are for those patients needing pain control and symptom management that cannot be provided at home or another setting. The residential beds are for patients most likely in their last two to four weeks of life who need more care than they are able to receive at home or in another care setting. Patients who stabilize and/or improve are provided assistance in making alternative living arrangements. These arrangements may include moving to a long-term care facility or returning to their own homes. It is our hope that in most cases we can continue to serve the patient at either a local facility or their private residence.
